Ronald V. Dellums International Day of Peace
Piper Dellums honors her father at the Ronald V. Dellums International Day of Peace Music Festival in Oakland.
More than a hundred people gathered Sunday for an Oakland music festival honoring Ron Dellums, the late congressman and former mayor who died July 30 at age 82.
Eight bands from the East Bay performed at the event, the first of what the Dellums family hopes will become an annual concert. Performances spanned blues, soul and indie rock. (Click on photo to read full article.)

Piper Dellums inspires motivates and brings Dr. Marissa to tears
Piper Dellums daughter of the late great Ron Bellums, who wrote the bill that ended Nelson Mandela‘s imprisonment (even though Reagan vetoed it twice which delayed his release for 11 years) shares why and how her father’s passion for peace and humble beginnings drove him from Mayor to Congressman to a world advocate for peace. Piper tells her own story perfectly illustrating why pain in life is mandatory but suffering is optional and that all trauma plays a purifying role into magnificence in creating great leaders and motivators and inspirational beings with unique gifts talents and abilities. The trauma of rape and the coping mechanisms are almost unbelievable but definitely understandable and its role in making Piper as powerful as she currently is. A tribute to her father with family pictures helps helps us get an intimate look and understanding of the drive and passion and love that her father had for peace and freedom.
